What is nervous system-focused bodywork, and how is it different from a typical massage?

Most massage follows a set routine start to finish. Our approach is different — we listen first, to what you say and what your body is telling us, and let that guide the session. We still work directly on the physical stuff — tension, tight spots, restricted movement — but we get there by helping your nervous system feel safe enough to actually let go, instead of pressing against a body that's still bracing.

Will this actually help with things like chronic tension, limited mobility, or pain — or is it more about relaxation?

Both, and they're connected. Every session still draws on real therapeutic technique — deep tissue work, myofascial release, assisted stretching — to address chronic tension, tightness, and limited mobility directly, the same way you'd expect from any skilled bodywork. What's different is the order of operations: instead of forcing a stuck area to release, we work with your nervous system first, so your body stops guarding and actually lets the change happen. In practice that tends to mean the results hold — less tension creeping back within a day or two.

Why do you focus so much on nervous system regulation?

Because it's the actual mechanism behind lasting change, not just a wellness buzzword. Trauma, chronic stress, and unprocessed emotion are stored biologically — in muscle tension, posture, a system stuck in high alert. Learning to regulate your nervous system changes how you respond to stress, to your environment, to intense experiences — you start feeling calmer, more grounded, and more connected to your own body. The goal isn't just to help you feel good for an hour. It's to plant the seeds of that change, so it carries into your everyday life long after you leave the table.

I've heard some people shake or tremble during a session — is that normal?

Completely normal — and actually something we invite. Stress, emotion, and old tension aren't just psychological; they're stored biologically in the body. Tremors, shaking, or waves of movement during a session are your nervous system completing a cycle it's been holding onto, sometimes for years. It can feel strange, and it's common to unconsciously stop the process the moment you notice it happening. You don't have to. This space exists so you can let it complete, however unusual it feels.

Is this a good option if I have anxiety, chronic stress, or a history of trauma?

Yes — many of our clients come to us specifically for this. Moon Waves is a no-judgment space. Sessions move at your pace, pressure is always adjustable, and you're always in control. If you have concerns before booking, reach out and we're happy to talk it through first.

Do you offer shorter sessions, like 30 minutes?

We do — as a Tune-Up session, built for returning clients who already know their body and what needs attention. Because we skip the full assessment and go straight to your trouble spots, these are meant as ongoing maintenance, not a first visit. We ask that you start with at least a 60-minute session first, so we've actually had the time to get a real feel for your body before working in a shorter format.

What's the difference between Therapeutic Bodywork and Massage with Stretch?

Both are deep, results-driven work — the difference is how involved you are. Therapeutic Bodywork can still feel deeply relaxing even while we're working through real tension; you're mostly receiving, and the depth comes from technique, not effort on your end. Massage with Stretch is more active, for you and for us — we move together throughout the session, working within your real range of motion, so it takes more participation but tends to leave joints and muscles feeling noticeably freer. If you're not sure which fits, tell us what you're hoping to feel afterward and we'll help you choose.

What's the Sound Lounge experience, and do I need to book a separate massage to try it?

You lie back, press play — your own music, or one of our guided journeys — and the Sound Lounge turns it into something you feel as much as hear. The same bass that moves through a concert floor moves through the table and into your body, syncing with every beat, as gentle or as powerful as you want it. Your mind follows the music instead of your thoughts, and your body follows your mind — shoulders dropping, breath slowing, the kind of letting go that's hard to talk yourself into but easy to fall into here. Fully clothed, no touch involved. People tell us it's like nothing they've experienced before. It's available as a standalone session, or as an add-on to any bodywork appointment.

Do you offer massage for seniors or people with limited mobility?

Yes. Our Relax & Reset sessions are especially well suited for this, and the studio has free parking and step-free access at the rear of the building.

Still not sure? Reach out before booking — we're happy to talk it through first.
